We are delighted to award the Fiona Foundation prize at Newcastle University again this year.
The achievement of women students in chemical engineering was one of our founding causes and we are delighted to name Jessica Ensor as our prize winner for 2025.
She commented:
“I was initially interested in studying Chemistry, however, I wasn’t sure about a career as a chemist. After speaking to my Chemistry A-Level teacher, he recommended I look into Chemical Engineering. After doing so, I realised I liked the idea of being an engineer, so I thought I’d give it a shot.
When applying to Newcastle, what really appealed to me was the busy city and the wonderful campus. The course also mentioned the possibility of picking a specialism which I really liked the idea of.
With the award of the Fiona Foundation Prize, it’ll be amazing to have extra funds. What with the stress of finding a job and the possibility of having to move to a completely new city, I’m grateful for the extra financial support this will provide me with.
I would like to say thank you so much! I’m honoured to have even been considered for the Fiona Foundation Prize, let alone win it. This award means a lot to me, and I’ve been very proud to tell my family. Thank you again!”
